January 24th

Community Kindergarten
This week in Social Studies we learned all about communities. We learned about how we can have a community with our friends as well as be part of the larger Tuscany Community. We got very creative and actually  built Tuscany Community using materials in the classroom. We used our sounding out skills to label different buildings in Tuscany.

We are also learning about Chinese New Year’s. Ask your child what they would do if they had “Sam’s Lucky Money.”

We look forward to seeing you next week for our Celebration of Learning!

Home Reading

Home reading books were sent out on Wednesday. Please make sure you fill out the home reading log and return those books to school on Monday. A detailed letter of expectations and tips for how to help your child with reading was e-mailed home.

Stuffies Day

On Monday, January 27th we will have our first “Stuffies Day”! That means students can bring one stuffed animal to school. We will be reading our home reading books to our fluffy friends on this day so make sure you practice all your reading at home this weekend!

French Immersion:
This week we have continued our focus on number sense. We looked at how we can represent a number in a lot of ways using a ten frame, number bonds, drawings and words. We are also focusing on how to correctly form each number so that it isn’t backwards.
In French we are still working on the question “ qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire pendant l’hiver?” We have brainstormed a lot of vocabulary so now we are putting it to use in other activities and centers.
We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday for our Celebration of Learning!

Community Kindergarten

We have been learning what personal goals are.  The children all wrote a goal that they would like to achieve for kindergarten or their future.  We are also talking about how families can have goals, which requires team-work from every member of the family.
In Math, we have been working with tally marks to represent numbers.  We have also used dominoes, which shows how numbers can be broken into two smaller numbers.
Our letter for this week was Hh.  The action for this letter is to pretend to sit, as the “h” is like a chair for tired people to sit on and they make the “HHhhh” sound as they sit.

French Immersion:
We have been reviewing all the sounds of our “Alphas” this week. We have been putting some letters together such as “a-m-i” and have been practicing singing them together to create words.
Our French focus continues to be “ Pendant l’hiver j’aime”. We have been practicing how to say different activities such as skating, skiing, sledding and putting them together to create full sentences.
In math, we continue to work on number bonds and how to break down numbers into smaller parts.

Happy New Year! This week we began talking about families. We read Todd Parr’s “The Family Book” and discussed how all families are different. We then explored new number concepts by graphing how many people are in our families.

We also learned about words that begin with “R” then drew and wrote about our winter holiday. We are working on sounding out our words slowly so we can write all the sounds we know!

In  gym, we worked on learning how to catch and throw balls.

French Immersion Kindergarten

Welcome back everyone! This week we did a review of all of our numbers 1-10 and some vocabulary we learned before the Holiday.
We learned how to be healthy and how we should wash our hands for 20 seconds using soap and water to kill all the germs that can make us sick.
In math we have started learning how to decompose numbers and break them into smaller parts using dominos.
